KBCO Back On-The-Air!

SPRTV is totally pumped to announce that FM station KBCO is back on-the-air after today’s repairs on Bald Mountain by Gary, our VP of Engineering and Site Maintenance!

The KBCO receiving antenna has been remounted to a temporary support tower (shown below), and the adjunct electronics work completed in the SPRTV electronics site, just before sundown today.

SPRTV again apologizes for any inconvenience, and would like to thank all our KBCO listeners for their patience.

KBCO Repairs Continue This Weekend

SPRTV is happy to report that Gary and his technical crew believe they are close to restoring FM station KBCO; with the station potentially going back on-the-air sometime this weekend.

If successful, this would be the 4th visit up Baldy to repair the damage from high winds back in early January, that toppled a modular building and an antenna support tower. After 3 visits, Gary and his crew have been able to dismantle and move the damaged support tower, install a new temporary support tower,  remount the KBCO receiving antenna and point it towards Denver.

The final repairs are purely electrical and not mechanical in nature, and will take place in the (undamaged) SPRTV electronics shack on Baldy.

SPRTV again apologizes for any inconvenience, and would like to thank all our KBCO listeners for their patience.

We’d also like to take the opportunity to remind everyone that you can always stream KBCO’s programming online.

KBCO Still Off-The-Air

KBCO Repairs on Baldy Scheduled for Jan 29

UPDATED …

SPRTV is happy to announce that Gary, our VP of Engineering and Site Maintenance, and Colin, will attempt repairs to radio station KBCO this Sunday, Jan 29, weather and safe travel up Baldy permitting.

The delay has been due to issues obtaining the necessary electronics gear to make the repairs, and not weather conditions on Bald Mountain.

KUVO Off-the-Air, Repairs Scheduled

UPDATED …

SPRTV would like to announce that FM/HD radio station KUVO is currently off-the-air.  Electronics equipment owned by KUVO has unexpectedly failed and will need to be replaced.

Unfortunately, significant delays are expected in obtaining the necessary repair equipment (which was ordered right away).

Consequently, we now estimate the earliest that repairs can be attempted is in early Feb, weather and safe travel up Baldy permitting.

Note these technical issues are not related to other station outages caused by wind damage on Bald Mountain back in early January.

Picture of Damage on Baldy

KBCO Receive Antenna and the Old Head End Shack DamagedHigh winds during the holiday season caused the Old Head End shack to blow over and the receive antenna for KBCO to topple.  The shack did not house any SPRTV equipment.  It was being used by others.  However, the damage to the antenna has caused an outage of KBCO.  We will continue to keep you updated as repairs begin.

High Winds on Baldy Damage KBCO Antenna & Channel 10 Back to Full Power

Today Gary and our new engineer, Colin, snowmobiled up to the electronics site.  They found the antenna that receives the KBCO signal from the front range on the ground.  Minor damage to the antenna, but the tower needs repair.  Needless to say, KBCO will be out until that damage is repaired.  Gary and Colin will try to get up there this weekend to accomplish the repairs, but only if the weather allows them and it is safe to do so.

They did manage to restore channel 10 digital TV to full power.  Your signal should be as it was prior to the most recent problem.

Our ISP still hasn’t restored our Internet service so the webcam is still stuck on an image from a few days ago.  We don’t know when they will restore service.

Gary took a number of pictures while he was up there today.  I’ll post them on this blog as soon as I get them.

Channel 10 Operating at Low Power

Channel 10, one of our digital TV offerings, is operating at low power.  Probably the high winds did something to the antenna.  Gary and Colin will be going up to the site tomorrow to evaluate, and hopefully correct, this problem, as well as deal with other problems caused by the weather.  As usual, thanks for your patience.
