SUMMIT PUBLIC RADIO MINUTES
County Commons Mt. Royal Room, 5:45 PM, 23 July 2007
In Attendance: Sue Greene (presiding), Gary Peterson, John Roberts, Don Dettmering, Steve Smith, Sally Liu, Eric Degerberg, Marsha Cooper, Peggy Kornreich, George Kornreich, Ann Stonington, Rob Waterman, Pat Spitzmiller, and Jay Cohen.
Minutes for the last (25 June) meeting had been e-mailed to the board and were approved.
I. OLD BUSINESS
A. ENGINEERING: Gary has been working toward the items in the April Work Plan. Bids for the (very substantial) new door are in hand and will soon be installed (by the contractor). The electrical work (Section 3 of the Plan) will be more extensive than previously estimated and will be around $5000 more. The present bid for the uninterruptible power system (UPS) is $6000 more than approved, although the system proposed by the bidder is more robust than originally conceived. The board feels more bids would be desirable and that if the UPS becomes a two-year project there is no objection. Tower work is proceeding and concrete will be poured in two weeks.
B. FINANCE: The treasurer had e-mailed the Profit-and-Loss statement and the Balance Sheet. Cash position is at about $109,531. We will soon have about $44,000 in the checking account to cover this year's expenses.
C. MEMBERSHIP: Don had e-mailed a spread sheet of membership numbers and donation amounts. Comparison by month with previous years was made. We are about 10 members and $1700 ahead of last year.
Around Labor Day, we will again have a full-page ad in the Summit Daily, the same as previously done.
On 24 September we will have an envelope-stuffing party at the County Common. A hardy breakfast will be provided and this has always been lots of fun. The time is 9 AM to noon, but we always finish early. Please come and join the food and fun.
D. SIGNAL: The next issue is expected to go to the layout editor in about a week. Don Dettmering will make a list of the donors (grouped by donation size) available to the editor.
E. FCC APPLICATIONS: Steve Smith is continuing to investigate possibilities with no firm strategy yet. This will be discussed with KUNC officials at the picnic on August 4th.
F. PUBLICITY: There was considerable discussion of various ways we could increase our visibility in the county. Joint KUNC/SPR concerts or other events, bringing the e-town show here, riverwalk event, etc were discussed. We need an enthusiastic volunteer to lead an effort to explore such possibilities for us.
