DRAFT SUMMIT PUBLIC RADIO MINUTES
County Commons, Mt. Royal Room, 5:45 PM, 28 August 2006
In Attendance: Judy Noble (presiding), Gary Peterson, John Roberts, Steve Smith, Marsha Cooper, Pat Spitzmiller, Terese Keil, Sally Liu, George Kornreich, Ellis Simon, Marylyn Simon (guest), and John Mirro.
Minutes for the last (July 24, 2006) meeting had been e-mailed to the board and were approved as written.
I. OLD BUSINESS
A. PICNIC and HIKE: Attendance was at an all-time high at 57 participants and the event was declared a success by the Board. Minor improvements were suggested for next year including a loudspeaker for talking over the gurgling of nearby Straight Creek . If we use the same site next year, we need to get a permit from the Forrest Service since this is on their land.
B. MEMBERSHIP: The first of the two full-page SPR ads prepared by Marsha was in the SDN on August 30. This presented our mission and much of our early history. There have been several new member contributions resulting from the included member application form. The envelope-stuffing will be on 11 September (not on the date erroneously reported in the July minutes).
C. WEB SITE: John Mirro has researched available hosting services and presented some of the service highlights. After considerable discussion, Marsha Cooper moved that we commit to use I-Power as a host for a year at a cost of about $96, presumably to be renewed if all proves satisfactory. This motion was passed unanimously. John may recommend "add-ons" to this basic service if found to be appropriate.
D. ENGINEERING: AT&T which owned miscellaneous items on Baldy gave these to SPR, including three tower sections and a small building. AT&T and SPR have filed with the forest service for Special Use and any other permits needed for these items The KVOD hiss problem is slowly being attacked with some success. KLDV interference is part of the problem and engineers from KLDV and KVOD reduced this by installing filters on their translators. A circular-polarization receive antenna will also be tested soon to see if this helps. KUNC has installed their own translator on Baldy freeing one of ours, giving us a spare for use in case another fails somewhere.
******************************** NEXT BOARD MEETING: Monday 23 October at the County Commons 5:45 PM. (The last 2006 meeting will be 27 November.)
