Marsha Cooper’s involvement with SPR came immediately upon its inception. She was at the initial meeting 9 years ago when a few people met in John Warner’s dental office to discuss revitalizing Public Radio in Summit County. She was willing to take on the heavy responsibilities of being the first president of Summit Public Radio and remained in that office until last year. SPR became the cornerstone of public radio broadcasting in the county under her watch. Asked why she became interested in working for SPR, Marsha responded, “I grew up and lived in L.A. before moving to Summit County. L.A. has 6 public radio stations and Summit County had 1. I wanted public radio classical and jazz options in the County.” The turning point in Marsha life came at the tender age of 12. It was then that she met her future husband and best friend, Cary. He was 13 at the time, and the two of them had both been invited to a Bar Mitzvah. The next day, they made a date to take the bus down to Santa Monica Beach in L.A. That day was the beginning of a long and prosperous relationship together. They remained closest friends all through school and finally tied the knot after college graduation. They settled in L.A. Cary wanted to go to law school. That meant that Marsha would need to work. On one hand, she was drawn by the hours and vacation time that Education had to offer. On the other hand, she was afraid of kids. In the end, she decided she would give it a try, and lo and behold, she found that she loved working with kids. She ended up making a 30 year career of it and was an educational administrator when she finally retired. Lucky kids! Marsha and Cary remained in L.A. until 10 years ago when they moved to Summit County as full-time residents. They still return to L.A., however, once a month to visit their children, grandkids and her mom. Their son, Glenn, and daughter-in-law, Sheryl, have two daughters, Morgan, age 8, and Sara, age 6. Glenn is a Real Estate Property Syndicator. They live in Santa Monica, California. Marsha and Cary also have a daughter, Erin Cooper. Erin is an Employment Attorney for Fox Entertainment. She is married to Michael Rotgin. They also reside in Santa Monica with their two children, Julia, age 3, and Teddy, age 1. It comes as no surprise, then, that Marsha’s favorite place on earth is locked in an embrace with her grandkids.
